Quality Design
The proposed development is an opportunity to greatly improve the street scene on Westgate in this part of Otley by replacing a vacant brownfield site with a high-quality development.
Churchill have taken great care to evolve a design which utilises materials found in the local area so that the proposed retirement building to reflects the surrounding Otley Conservation area. The proposed design utilises many local features, including natural stone walling, natural grey blue slate roof tiles and metal balconies and juliette balconies.
The layout utilises the topography of the site, so that the apartment building appears as two storeys when viewed from A659 Westgate.
The previous planning permission for the site would have featured a large footprint food store with a substantial area of car parking, with a wide signalised access junction. It would have appeared as an incongruous and unattractive feature in the conservation area.
By contrast, Churchill’s proposed development would create a high-quality development of residential scale, served from a simple priority junction, more in keeping more suited to the character of the Conservation Area.

A strong record of delivery
Churchill have a strong track-record in delivering the sites on which they secure planning permissions and prides itself in delivering high quality developments that are robustly designed, costed and deliverable once planning permission has been obtained.
Two recently completed schemes in Fleet and Basingstoke demonstrate this dependability, and that we build what we get planning permission for and deliver on our promises.
